If there’s any hope for Carlos Mendoza keeping his job amid the Mets’ being the worst team in baseball at 9-19, it’ll be because some of his current stars stick up for him.

I want to start by saying that we have no idea what guys like Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor are saying behind the scenes, but their public comments seem somewhat promising regarding Mendoza, and there’s something to be said for that.

For a team that’s already in a position it wasn’t expected to be in, moving on from a manager that some of the guys in the clubhouse seem to like probably won’t do them any good.

If anything, this will likely make the Mets worse than they already are, which is why it’s important to listen to what somebody like Soto had to say after another loss on Sunday, as the Mets dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies.

“This is not Mendy’s fault or David’s fault. They definitely put a great team together, and we have to be the ones that gotta go out there and perform… I think he’s been doing a great job as a manager… It’s not his fault at all,” Soto said.

This can also be Soto simply taking the blame, as he has to be the leader of this organization. Soto, unfortunately, can’t do it all. This is far from his fault, but just the way the game goes nowadays.
