Julian Alvarez faced the press on Monday to preview Atletico’s Champions League semi-final clash with Arsenal and – unsurprisingly – was asked about speculation about a move to Barcelona.
It’s been reported today that Barcelona have made initial contact with Atletico to sound out their La Liga rivals about a possible transfer to the Camp Nou.
Alvarez was asked about the ongoing speculation about his future but really didn’t want to get into it.
“I can’t be around to deny and clarify every time something like this comes up. I try not to pay attention to what’s said on social media, because it often gets tangled up in lies. I need to save my energy for what’s important, which is being well myself so I can help the team,” he said.
“I try not to dwell on it too much; new things come out every week. I try not to waste energy on that; we’re in the most important part of the season. My focus is on being well.”
Alvarez and Atletico face Arsenal on Tuesday night in the Champions League in the first leg of their tie. The winners will progress to a final against Bayern or PSG.
