The Rajasthan Royals opener won the Orange Cap, Emerging Player of the Season award, Super Striker of the Season award (237.3), Super Sixes of the Season award (72) and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
After receiving his awards, Sooryavanshi was invited by former India coach Ravi Shastri for a quick chat on stage.
Shastri’s light-hearted question about the youngster’s diet left the crowd in splits.
“Aap kitna doodh pite ho roz?” asked Shastri.
In response, a laughing Sooryavanshi said, ” Main ab doodh nahi pita (I don’t drink milk anymore).”
While Rajasthan Royals fell short of reaching the final after losing to eventual runners-up Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, Sooryavanshi’s performances throughout the tournament earned him the MVP honour.
The teenager topped the batting charts with 776 runs from 16 innings at an average of 48.50 and an astonishing strike rate of 237.30. His tally included one century and five half-centuries as he comfortably claimed the Orange Cap.
“This season, I learnt how to play in pressure games, (and) how to change your game,” said the 15-year-old said.
“You cannot play every game in one mode. You will have to read the situation of the game and play according to the requirements of the team. I got to learn this a lot in the playoff games too.”
Sooryavanshi also rewrote the record books, surpassing Chris Gayle’s long-standing IPL record for the most sixes in a season. The young batter hammered 72 sixes, eclipsing Gayle’s previous mark of 59.
“Yes, I just try to back my game and if I feel that I can hit this ball, then I go all out and try to play like that,” he said.
The youngster, who missed out on registering the fastest century in IPL history by just one ball, said fitness would be a major area of focus moving forward.
“I want to play for a long time, and I will have to work on my fitness and focus on it,” he said.
