If there was any solid proof about the negative effect of NIL on college basketball, look no further than the latest example.
With the San Antonio Spurs being one of the youngest teams in Western Conference Finals history, many have highlighted what they’ve been able to do with up-and-coming youth behind star center Victor Wembanyama.
At the same time, the LSU Tigers are making headlines for the opposite. Will Wade arrived for his second stint in Baton Rouge with zero players on the roster. This called for some of the most desperate moves in the NIL era with NBA bounce-back players coming back to college for a bigger pay day. Some have called this outlandish and steps to ruining the sport as we know it.
All things considered, the Spurs have a younger roster than the Tigers right now.

That’s 100% factual and not a typo. The semi-pro roster for LSU has more years of experience than one of the final four teams in the NBA.
If that’s not a huge red flag of the current state of college basketball, nothing will be.

Wade has pulled in several EuroLeague vets with no NCAA experience, along with NBA players who were drafted last year and took on a role in the G-League. None of this makes sense other than LSU is begging the NCAA to shoot them down in a historic court ruling.
One aspect of all of this is crystal clear. If Wade doesn’t win with an NBA roster, he’ll definitely be hearing about it.
