‘Make the right choice’: Man Utd legend sends cryptic message to on-loan Red who’ll now return to Carrington

Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has encouraged Andre Onana to ‘make the right choice’ following the conclusion of his loan spell with Trabzonspor.

The Cameroonian ended his spell having won the Turkish Cup and secured Europa League qualification.

Trabzonspor keen to sign Andre Onana permanently

Alas, it’s no surprise that the Trabzonspor president has already publicly expressed his desire for Onana to stay beyond the summer.

When negotiating his switch to the Turkish outfit last September, United did not include any sort of buy option in the terms, meaning fresh talks would need to be held to determine how a potential transfer would look.

The 30-year-old is tied to Old Trafford until 2028, so it remains to be seen what kind of fee United would demand for a player they shelled out £47.9 million for.

United preparing to facilitate Onana exit

Despite Onana having his sights set on reviving his Red Devils career, it’s common knowledge now that INEOS are adamant about parting ways as soon as the window opens.

He had two full seasons to prove himself as a worthy No.1, but instead accumulated a catalogue of goalkeeping howlers and costly errors.

In fact, by the beginning of 2025/2026, Onana dropped behind Altay Bayindir in Ruben Amorim’s pecking order.

When he, too, failed to impress, it prompted INEOS to frantically enter the market in the final days to secure a new ‘keeper, eventually doing so in the form of Senne Lammens.

Lammens has impressed massively since cementing his spot between the sticks, and it’s expected he will retain the place for years to come.

Onana and Bayindir, on the other hand, will be sold before 2026/2027 gets underway.
