Arriving during the winter transfer window from Aston Villa, Donyell Malen was Roma’s undisputed driving force in the second half of the season.
The Dutch striker, with 14 goals in 18 games, helped lead the Giallorossi back to the Champions League after seven long years. Malen, interviewed by Idealista.it, spoke about the choice he made months ago.
“The name of Roma, of AS Roma, but also the ambitions of the club and our coach pushed me to accept the offer. Speaking to him, in a few words, he immediately made me feel important and at the heart of the project.”
On his impact in Serie A: “I certainly hoped and counted on doing well. But if I’ve achieved these numbers, scoring so many goals, I owe it above all to the help of my teammates on the pitch and the coach, who immediately deployed me at the heart of the attack.”
On his best goal and his relationship with the fans: “It’s probably not the best, because it was a penalty, but the spot kick scored in Parma was truly crucial for our league position. And in that moment, I also felt the overwhelming joy of our fans. What can I say, the fans’ love certainly makes me happy.”
