Manchester United’s transfer window so far isn’t going to plan, with all their original targets ending up elsewhere.
While it quickly became apparent that Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali were going to be out of their price range, Mateus Fernandes was a huge miss, with the 21-year-old ending up at Tottenham Hotspur.
Ahead of the window, it looked like United were going to complete the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta – but that move appears to have collapsed, despite sources at Manchester United claiming otherwise.
One midfielder they will be able to confirm the coup of is 22-year-old Andrey Santos. The Chelsea midfielder has completed a medical to sign for Michael Carrick’s side in a £50 million deal. But the club are still two midfield signings away.
Following these misses in the transfer market, Manchester United will now be assessing their next options. According to AS journalist Eduardo Burgos on X, Manchester United have three players on their list.
The shortlist features Manu Kone, a player featuring for France at the World Cup, for whom Manchester United are reportedly set to submit a £42 million bid.
Another player on United’s list is Alex Scott. The Bournemouth midfielder is also being pursued by Chelsea.
As well as Kone and Scott, Moroccan Ayoubb Bouaddi is the third name on Manchester United’s shortlist. The club has been following the 18-year-old Lille midfielder since the start of the season and during the World Cup.
The names on Manchester United’s shortlist make sense. Players who aren’t likely to cost the Red Devils as much as earlier sought-after options, the trio all have serious quality about them, and could bring a lot to the midfield, as the club chases two further signings.
