Marion-area sending runners to regional meets around Ohio

Dozens of runners from around the Marion-area qualified for regional meets in Division II through Division V during the running event finals throughout Saturday, May 24, at Hillard Bradley and Granville.

The top four finishers in each event in every division advanced to their regional meet set for later this week, May 27 to 30.

Field event finals were held earlier in the week.

Besides Division V results, here are all the track event regional qualifiers from the area:

Division II

Marion Harding’s Romy Yancey was the only President to advance in a running event at the Hillard Darby district. She was fourth in the girls 200 meters in 26.78. She will compete in the Lexington regional May 27 and 29.

Division III

River Valley’s Erica Mason won the girls 800 meters in 2 minutes, 23.31 seconds as RV’s lone running qualifier at the Hillard Darby district.

Highland is sending Matthew Miller in the boys 3200 after a third-place run in 9:52.82. The Scots are also sending their girls 4×400 relay that was fourth in 4:17.67.

Division III will go to the Muskingum University regional in New Concord May 28 and 30.

Division IV, District A Girls

Northmor won the team championship with 171 points, while North Union was fifth in Granville.

Northmor’s Kate Lehman won two events, taking the 1600 in 5:40.56 and 3200 in 12:34.39. Also winning for the Golden Knights was Brooke Bower in the 400 at 47.5 and Bella Smith in the 800 at 2:28.77, while the 4×400 relay won in 4:15.68.

Bower is also advancing in the 100 with a runner-up in 12.65, while Delaney Landin was a runner-up in the 800 at 2:28.8, and Ryann Brinkman was second in the 1600 in 5:54.18. Nalia Sackman was second in both the 100 hurdles in 17.29 and 300 hurdles in 49.47. Macie Witherall was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 50.84. Northmor’s 4×100 relay was second in 52.51.

For North Union, Gabby Lindsey was second in the 200 in 26.07, second in the 400 in 58.12 and third in the 100 in 12.93.

All the Division IV athletes who competed in Granville move on to the Marion Harding regional May 27 and 29.

Division IV, District A Boys

North Union’s Griffin Osborne was second in the 100 in 11.17 and third in the 200 in 22.88. Teammate Ben Bonnell was also a two-event individual qualifier, going third in the 1600 in 4:47.92 and third in the 3200 in 10:48.2. North Union’s 4×100 relay was a runner-up in 44.84.

Elgin’s Archer Johnston advanced with a third place in the boys 110 hurdles in 16.13.

Division IV, District B Girls

Elgin’s Kadence Gear advanced to the regional with a third place in the 200 in 27.2. Elgin’s 4×100 team was fourth in 55.07.

Cardington’s Mickenzie White was fourth in the 3200 in 12:20.68 as was Pleasant’s 4×200 relay in 1:52.73.

Elgin was fifth as a team with 47 points, while Cardington was seventh and Pleasant eighth.

Like the other D-IV Granville distirct, the athletes will go to Harding Stadium May 27 and 29.

Division IV, District B Boys

Mount Gilead won a team championship with 146 points, while Northmor was fifth with 56 points, Pleasant sixth with 49.5 points and Cardington eighth with 46 points.

Picking up wins were Mount Gilead’s Matthew Horton in the 400 in 52.28, Liam Stalnaker in the 800 in 1:58.38, Tae Davis in the boys 110 hurdles in 14.8, Kasen Wallace in the 300 hurdles in 40.52 and MG’s 4×200 relay in 1:32.61.

Also picking up wins were Northmor’s 4×100 relay in 44.17 and Pleasant’s Joey Dietsch in the 3200 in 9:55.22.

Runner-up spots went to Pleasant’s Cooper Halpin in the 400 in 52.9, MG’s Owen Hershner in the 1600 in 4:34.48, MG’s Henry Bartlett in the 3200 in 9:56.62, Wallace in the 110 hurdles in 15.37 and MG’s 4×400 relay in 3:32.66.

Third-place finishers were Northmor’s 4×400 relay in 3:32.79, MG’s 4×100 relay in 44.81, Davis in the 200 in 22.98 and Bartlett in the 1600 in 4:34.48.

Getting the final advancing spots in fourth were MG’s Tyler Miller in the 100 in 11.16 and 200 in 23.08, MG’s Ethan Turner in the 800 in 2:05.43, Cardington’s Dylan Compton in the 1600 in 4:37.62 and 3200 in 10:03.49 and Cardington’s Bristol Whetnail in the 110 hurdles in 16.46.
