Miami Marlins second baseman Xavier Edwards may be on his way to his first Major League All-Star appearance.
There’s underrated, and then there’s Edwards. The 26-year-old is in his fourth season with the Marlins and has never posted an OPS+ above 95 over more than 70 games.
At the moment, Edwards is going to surpass a 95 OPS+ with flying colors. He’s also drawn more walks than he has struck out. Put those together, and you have a really solid ballplayer.

In 49 games, Edwards has a 2.9 bWAR with a 153 OPS+ and 25 walks compared to just 23 strikeouts in 208 trips to the plate.

Statistically, that kind of production has been better than some of baseball’s best hitters, Jose Ramirez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr, as shown by the data.
Though he may not have as much power as Ramirez and Guerrero, Edwards is slowly but surely turning into an underrated star in Miami.
The Marlins are a much better team with him at the top of their lineup.
