Matheus Cunha admits that Manchester United’s turbulent start to the 2025/26 season has made it feel like he’s been at the club far longer than the two months since his arrival.
The Brazilian forward joined United from Wolves for £62.5m, part of a summer spending spree totaling £236m that also brought in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, and Senne Lammens. However, the Red Devils’ campaign has hit early turbulence, with just three wins from seven Premier League games and a shock Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town.
Cunha is yet to register a goal or assist in seven appearances under manager Ruben Amorim and missed the Manchester derby defeat to City due to a hamstring injury. Despite these setbacks, Cunha impressed for Brazil in their 5-0 win over South Korea, boosting his confidence ahead of United’s clash with Liverpool.
“Being here now in the national team, and at United, is, without a doubt, a different level, a different moment for me as a player,” Cunha told Globo Esporte. “It’s only been two months [since joining Manchester United], but it feels like I’ve been here for a long time because of the club’s current situation. I have to get results as quickly as possible because I’m a big signing… all of this helps a lot to adapt faster and feel as good as possible in the national team.”
