Some New York Mets fans are hopeful that a legend will decide to come back to the team at some point over the next year, whether that be as a head coach or in other capacities.
With David Wright being available for a job, one of the most storied players in Mets history would definitely be a nice fit for the organization. However, according to the latest report, it seems very far-fetched that Wright would even consider taking a job as a head coach in Major League Baseball.
“Wright dabbled in being a special assistant shortly after he retired,” Tim Britton of The Athletic wrote, “but ever since, he’s been very content spending time with his family in California. He hasn’t even wanted the special assistant grind, let alone the manager one.”
I don’t see this as too big of an issue for the Mets, as there haven’t exactly been many people suggesting that Wright was going to come back to New York and coach this roster. It would always be nice to have a guy like him around, but he would probably fit better in a different role than being a head coach.
The Mets also recently committed to giving Carlos Mendoza at least the next few weeks with this roster, so hopefully that works out and we don’t have to have this conversation any longer.
