Two weeks after getting eliminated from the NBA Playoffs, the Boston Celtics‘ offseason is underway.

One of their main targets this summer is expected to be two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who will likely be available via trade with the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Celtics already pursued him at the trade deadline and will likely do so again this offseason.

During his appearance on Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Charania named Boston as one of many teams that “had interest in Giannis at the deadline” along with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat and others.

“The Celtics did check in. They did make a call. They did have a level of interest, and I think that is gonna continue into this offseason, but they never got into the particulars,” Charania said.

Boston now has plenty of time to start fleshing out a potential trade for Antetokounmpo, although it would likely need to give up either Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum to get him.

That would be a massive shakeup to the Celtics’ identity, so time will tell how seriously Brad Stevens pursues a trade for Giannis over the next few months.
