If the Celtics are considering parting ways with star guard Jaylen Brown this offseason, the perfect player for them to target in return would be Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, if Boston is unable to secure Antetokounmpo, it could instead explore trading Brown for another big man.
Fadaway World’s Nico Martinez proposed three potential trade ideas for the Timberwolves if they decide to part ways with their star center Rudy Gobert this offseason. One notable scenario suggested is a trade package sending Gobert to the Celtics in exchange for Jaylen Brown.
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard
Boston Celtics Receive: Rudy Gobert, 2028 first-round pick, 2032 first-round pick, 2032 second-round pick
“For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown’s antics have put him at the center of trade talks, and Gobert is a target that fits their needs,” Martinez wrote on Tuesday. “Forced to rely on Neemias Queta all season, Rudy would be a massive addition to their frontcourt, and his presence would provide an instant boost on defense.
“Alongside Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Sam Hauser and Nikola Vucevic, the Celtics could go into next season feeling confident about their chances. If that’s not enough to convince Boston (Gobert turns 34 in June), the haul of draft picks gives them enough assets that they could actively start planning for the future.”
If the Celtics go through with this deal, they should be ready to step back from title contention for a few seasons. While Gobert is a solid player, he alone won’t lead Boston to a championship unless further moves are made.
On the upside, Boston could acquire two first-round picks for rebuilding, though they may be late picks in the first round, potentially in 2028. If the Timberwolves acquire Brown, they could become one of the top teams in the NBA.
