The Boston Celtics could be looking to make a big splash this offseason, and a Jaylen Brown trade is a possibility.
Brown’s controversial comments after the season, paired with a first-round exit, may force Brad Stevens to make some changes. If the Celtics think Brown and Jayson Tatum are not going to be able to bring another title to Boston, swapping Brown for a new star could be the route they go.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, there is “belief in some corners of the league” that the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers have interest in Brown. Well, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed a fourth team that has interest in him.
“The Pelicans have been mentioned by various league executives with Jaylen Brown interest, as well,” Fischer said during a livestream for Bleacher Report. “We don’t know if Boston is even going to fully entertain this at the end of the day. But that doesn’t mean these teams are going to call and are going to try.”
There have also been rumors about the Celtics potentially swapping Jaylen Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, according to Fischer, the Milwaukee Bucks would not want Brown and would likely want to move him to a different team. That does not mean the Bucks would not entertain trading Antetokounmpo to the Celtics, but it simply means a third team would need to get involved to take on Brown and his contract.
The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Eric Nehm reported on Wednesday that Antetokounmpo is “very intrigued” with the idea of joining the Celtics. However, if the Bucks trade him elsewhere, it seems like the Celtics would still have options for Brown if they do decide to move on.
