NFL insider hints at Falcons’ next big contract extension

The Atlanta Falcons checked off a major item on their offseason to-do list yesterday when they signed star wide receiver Drake London to a big contract extension. The new deal is for four years and $141 million, making London one of the NFL’s highest-paid skill players.

The average comes out to $35.25 million per year, putting him just ahead of Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson for the third-highest annual salary at the position. Only Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Benals and Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks are earning more per year.

London isn’t the only Atlanta player who’s likely to get a big deal done this summer. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, they’re prioritizing an extension for running back Bijan Robinson.

While London’s deal didn’t quite reset the market at wide receiver, Robinson’s big deal almost certainly will – besting Saquon Barkley’s $20.6 million per year average. Christian McCaffrey ranks second at $19 million per year.

So long as he stays relatively healthy Robinson will be worth every penny. McCaffrey, Barkley and Derrick Henry might be bigger names but Robinson is likely to blow past all of them in 2026. All he needs is for Brian Robinson Jr. to vulture fewer of his touchdowns than Tyler Allgeier did and some more consistent leads by the Falcons.

Atlanta is also expected to give a major extension to tight end Kyle Pitts, who’s currently under contract on the franchise tag. Unlike London or Robinson, Pitts’ next deal is a bit harder to predict. He is coming off a breakout year but the Falcons may want to see him repeat it before they commit to a massive new deal. They have until July 15 to work out an extension or he’ll play the 2026 season under the tag.
