Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer sparked excitement among Patriots fans on Friday night when he said his understanding is that the framework is in place for a trade for A.J. Brown.

“My understanding is there is a framework in place for a trade to be made early next week that will make A.J. Brown a Patriot,” Breer said on NBC Sports Boston. “The exact terms, I think, there are some things to be worked out there, but it would sort of take someone backing out at this point, whether it’s the Eagles or the Patriots, for it not to happen.”

It always seemed likely that the Eagles would trade Brown to the Patriots after June 1, as Philadelphia would only face a $16 million dead cap hit this season instead of $43 million.

It’ll be interesting to see what trade package the Patriots send to the Eagles. It seems likely that a first-round pick will be included in the deal going back to Philadelphia.

The big question is which year the first-round pick will be. Many teams are hesitant to part with their 2027 first-round picks since this draft class could be one of the deepest in years. Perhaps the Patriots are planning to offer the Eagles a 2028 first-round pick instead, ensuring they still have a first-round selection available for next year’s draft.
