If the assumption is that A.J. Brown is being traded to the New England Patriots, the next biggest question is the compensation the Philadelphia Eagles would get in return for the three-time All-Pro wide receiver.
The Eagles reportedly initially hoped for a first and second-round draft pick, but that price seemed steep back in March. That appears to be the case even more so with both free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft in the rearview. Sure, the Patriots would love to have Brown on their roster, but they aren’t desperate to make it happen.
They could still re-sign their 2025 leading receiver, Stefon Diggs, to a new deal. The team also still has Kayshon Boutte and Romeo Doubs on their roster.
“My best guess is that they probably already agreed to something loosely,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on Middays with Marks. “They can always tweak that or rework it, but they’re probably getting a one. Maybe a future one, maybe it’s a 2028. I don’t think they’ll get more than that, I think that would be the max at this point. I’d be surprised. Philly once upon a time hoped for a one and a two.
“I just don’t see that happening. Maybe they can get creative and swap some mid-to-late round picks to sweeten it up. I haven’t heard anything as far as like if there’s a veteran included. New England could part with one of their receivers, but I think Philly’s pretty set there.”
.@JFowlerESPN would be “surprised” if the #Patriots gave up more than a first-round pick for Eagles WR AJ Brown.
Fowler says he hasn’t heard anything about a veteran being included in the deal and reiterates that New England is currently the only team interested in Brown.

Brown being traded to the Patriots is expected to happen on or after June 1, which is a move that would save the Eagles north of $40 million in dead cap money.
A move to New England would reunite Brown with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel. The 28-year-old wide receiver still managed to haul in 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in what many consider a down year in his illustrious NFL career.
Brown has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in six of his last seven seasons.
