Manchester United’s midfield rebuild has been one of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window.
Michael Carrick made it clear at the end of last season that reinforcements in the middle of the park were a priority, and the club have already acted to strengthen that area.
Andrey Santos became the first arrival after completing his move from Chelsea, before United signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
However, United’s work in midfield is not finished.
They are in need of a third midfielder after the departure of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte’s injury he suffered at the World Cup.
Belgium midfielder of interest to Manchester United
According to Voetbalkrant, Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin has emerged as another player being considered by the Red Devils as they continue searching for a third addition.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign with Belgium, performances that have significantly increased interest in his services across Europe.
Nicolas Raskin featured in all six of Belgium’s matches during the tournament and has now attracted attention from several clubs following his displays on the international stage.
Manchester United are not alone in monitoring the Belgian, though.
Inter Milan are also understood to be keen as they look to freshen up their midfield options, while Aston Villa have added the Rangers star to their shortlist as well.
Spanish clubs Real Betis and Villarreal had already held discussions with Rangers before the World Cup, while newly-promoted Hull City even submitted a formal bid earlier this summer.
That offer was rejected by the Scottish side, and the report claims Rangers’ valuation has now risen considerably following Raskin’s performances in North America.
The Belgian remains contracted at Ibrox until the summer of 2028, placing Rangers in a strong negotiating position if they decide to entertain offers.
Raskin heads into the new season in excellent form after contributing 16 goal involvements last season, scoring 7 goals while providing 9 assists across all competitions.
With United still looking to complete Carrick’s midfield overhaul before the transfer window closes, Raskin has now become the latest name linked with a move to Old Trafford as the club weigh up their options for one final signing in the centre of the pitch.
