Oak Ridge hosts ‘Scholastic Nationals’ rowing event this weekend

The Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championship Regatta is set for this weekend, May 22-23, on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge.

The SRAA National Championship Regatta, often referred to as the “Scholastic Nationals,” is one of the oldest and most prestigious high school rowing championships in North America, according to a news release from the Oak Ridge Rowing Association. Founded in 1935, it has served as a premier, season-culminating event for scholastic (school-based) crew programs.

The event will draw approximately 1,500 athletes from more than 160 individual youth and high school programs from all over the United States.

The SRAA National Championship Regatta is an invitation-only event, open to qualified crews of any youth public or private school. Crews are invited based on their performance at a qualifying championship.

The regatta will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A full schedule is available at www.sraa.net/.
