It was a glorious win for Chelsea last night against Tottenham with interim manager Calum McFarlane finally getting a league win under his belt for the first time.
After the game, the coach praised his team’s performance, especially taking into consideration the short gap since Saturday’s cup final.
Calum McFarlane on Chelsea energy against Spurs
“It was obvious from minute one that we didn’t, at times, have the energy and the intensity that we needed,” McFarlane admitted.
“We had it in patches, it was always going to be tough with the turnaround from the cup final. The physical and psychological load that that put on us, we knew that was going to be the case. I thought we played some really nice stuff in the first half. I thought we deserved the two-goal lead when we got it.
“Then it was about when Spurs obviously showed more energy, they had more time to prepare for the game, more rest. You could tell that was coming and we just needed to dig in for the result. I thought we’d done well at the end.”
Let’s hope they’re feeling fresher by this weekend.
In other news…
McFarlane also spoke about three of the players who missed last night’s win – all of them sound like they should be ready to go again by Saturday.
Andrey Santos doubled his team’s lead against Spurs with a finish from close range.
