The Green Bay Packers are ready to contend again in 2026. The team has had several disappointing playoff results recently, so the hope is that a corner can be turned in 2026.

As is usual for the Packers, the team didn’t do a ton in free agency this offseason. On defense, the notable additions were defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and linebacker Zaire Franklin. One area that hasn’t really been address is the pass rush, and that’s a bit surprising.

Micah Parsons suffered a devastating injury last year and isn’t expected to be at 100% to start this season. Even if Parsons is ready to go immediately and is his normal self, the team could us more depth on the edges.

Interestingly, there could be an option for the Packers to still add an elite edge rusher before the season begins.

Packers named as landing spot for Josh Sweat

Josh Sweat signed a massive four-year, $76 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals last year. The defender spent the first seven years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, earning one Pro Bowl selection and helping the team win a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Sweat to grow unhappy in Arizona. Latest reports indicate that Sweat wants out, and he should have plenty of suitors on the trade market.

Regarding the Packers and Sweat, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox offered the following analysis:

There are several reasons why the Green Bay Packers should be interested in adding Sweat if he becomes available. The first is the reality that star edge-rusher Micah Parsons is recovering from a torn ACL and might not be at 100 percent to start the season.

Secondly, the Packers traded Rashan Gary to the Cowboys early in the offseason after recording just 36 sacks as a team in 2025. No edge player other than Parsons and Gary recorded more than 2.0 sacks for Green Bay last season.

As Knox pointed out, the Packers traded Rashan Gary, so if Parsons isn’t healthy, it’s hard to see where the pass rush is going to come from.

Sweat could be a huge boost in Green Bay. In his first year as a Cardinal, Sweat lived up to his contract, playing in 17 games and collecting 30 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. The Cardinals figure to be in for another long season in 2026, and it’s understandable if Sweat doesn’t want to waste another season of his prime.

In Green Bay, Sweat and Parsons could make up possibly the best pass rush duo in the entire league. Sweat has had at least seven sacks in four different seasons and could reach that Pro Bowl level again playing opposite Parsons.
