Penn State expected to land 3-star TE

While Penn State may have lost a bit of their morale on the recruiting trail, experts are now saying their spirits can be lifted by a three star tight end who will certainly be viewed as a major investment. Sean Currie, the 32nd ranked tight end in the Class of 2027 is now expected to commit to the Nittany Lions, as per Brian Dohn of 247Sports. While he may not be the impact player right away Gary Walker could have been, he can fill a need for the Nittany Lions as they prepare to lose a lot of talent at the position.

Currie was actually a Virginia commit, but reopened his commitment on March 12 as more opportunities arose. His intention was to play two sports, including lacrosse in the picture, but he now wants to solely focus on his football career. Now, the schools interested in him will anxiously anticipate their official visits with Currie, with Penn State scheduled first, as well as Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Penn State have been relatively quiet on the tight end front, only signing Cooper Terwilliger at the position. Furthermore, even if they do end up with Currie, they may not even play him at tight end. Currie has also handled snaps at linebacker in high school with a better chance to potentially be more of a blocking tight end due to his size. If that’s the case, then Currie could end up filling the shoes of Gabe Burkle, a redshirt senior who is expected to leave the program after this season.

While Currie may not be the Nittany Lions’ priority right now, he could still prove to be a very valuable player in the future, which is what new head coach Matt Campbell covets. He may not have the flash of other tight ends on the roster, but flash may not be the direction Penn State is going in as evidenced by Campbell’s approach.
