Pep Guardiola can be next England manager as Noel Gallagher issues warning to Manchester City fans over future

Noel Gallagher has tipped Pep Guardiola to become a future England national team manager.

City announced on Friday that Guardiola will leave this summer after a glittering decade of success at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spaniard joined in 2016 following spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and departs in the coming weeks after winning 20 trophies.

Guardiola will become a global ambassador within the City Group, but Oasis legend and diehard City fan Gallagher believes he could take to the international management stage.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, he was asked if he thinks Guardiola will return to the dugout after the 2026 World Cup.

To which he said: “If I know him at all, I would expect him to go after the World Cup with somebody, I think that would drive him.

“It’s the only thing he’s not won, he’s done everything in the game, changed the game, changed the way people perceive the game.

“I can see him lifting the World Cup, I could see him being England manager.

“I could see him being the Dutch [Netherlands] manager, I could see him managing one of the big one of the ‘Big Six’ – there’s no way he’s leaving the game.”

What does the future hold for City?

Former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has already agreed to take over at City, as talkSPORT reported earlier this week.

Maresca, who left Chelsea in January, once worked as an assistant to Guardiola in Manchester and is set to join on a three-year deal.

The Italian has won the Club World Cup and Conference League, but Gallagher has warned City fans that Guardiola’s success may be too much to replicate.

Could we see Guardiola one day in charge of the Three Lions?

After insisting that Guardiola cannot be replaced, he remarked: “Listen forget replacing him, it’s over now.

“That thing of the almost a hundred per cent certainty of winning a trophy every season with Pep, that’s done now, forget that.

“Now we have to reset, and now Khaldoon [Al Mubarak] becomes the most important man at the club and we have to go again.”

Gallagher added: “We’re never going to see the likes of Guardiola again.

“And it’s not just a sad day for Man City fans, it’s a sad day for the Premier League because he was box office, he was a superstar.

“You look back to when (Arsene) Wenger and (Sir Alex) Ferguson and (Jose) Mourinho were going at it, we thought then when they all left there was going to be no superstars left.

“And then all of a sudden (Jurgen) Klopp and Pep appear and new rivalries will become apparent.

“The next rivalry could be (Vincent) Kompany and (Xabi) Alonso, you never know what’s on the horizon.”

Gallagher continued: “I think it’s time for the club to reset and it’s time for the fans to reset and take a deep breath and go again.

“We were winning trophies and titles before Pep arrived, it was like a rocket ship with Pep.”

Gallagher also stated that now is the time for City supporters to show their loyalty to the club in the wake of Guardiola’s departure.

“There’s rumours that he’s going to stay in the Manchester City Football Group fold, so that would be great,” he said.

“I think it would be terrible if we lost his knowledge, I think hopefully he’ll become our Johan Cruyff.

“Cruyff discovered him and hopefully Pep will be there when the powers that be need him to pick his brains.”

Before adding: “We are now going to go into a period of where it’s not guaranteed that we’re going to even finish in the top four.

“So get used to it [City fans], now we’ll see how much of a City fan you are.”
