For the first time in his career, Scottie Scheffler is atop the leaderboard after the first round of a major. What does that mean for the rest of the field that the world No. 1 does not have to play from behind? Remember, it was just a month ago that he came back from double-digits to nearly send the Masters into a playoff.
Conversely, Rory McIlroy, said winner of the Masters, fired a 4-over 74 on Thursday, a round he called, “S—t.” He has work to do just to make the cut.
Same for Bryson DeChambeau, who will start his round two shots back of McIlroy.
Saturday, Round 3, is moving day, but today at Aronimink has the same sort of feel: Scheffler could run away with the tournament today, while the two other biggest names in the sport need to make a move just to make it to the weekend.
