NEWTON SQUARE, Pa. — Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, but … Rory McIlroy stopped his Tuesday practice round at the PGA Championship after just three holes. He may have reaggravated a blister that had him limping two days ago in Charlotte after the Truist Championship. Photos of McIlroy on the course at Aronimink showed him with his right shoe off.
“I’ve got a blister on my pinky toe on my right foot,” McIlroy said Sunday, and then added a cringe-inspiring line: “But it’s underneath my nail. So I can’t really get to it. So it’s a little sore, but I’ll be all right.”
McIlroy arrived at Aronimink on Monday night. He played the course two weeks ago, but has not yet completed a practice round this week. He didn’t discuss his foot health at his press conference earlier Tuesday.
McIlroy is slated to tee off at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday alongside Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth in pursuit of his second straight major and his third PGA Championship.
