The Philadelphia Phillies, similar to some other teams around Major League Baseball, are in a position where they can’t really worry too much about their farm system. The Phillies already have a very good big league roster when things are going as planned, but there’s definitely a need for more talent at the trade deadline.

We saw that throughout the first month or so of the regular season, and the Phillies playing better now shouldn’t really change that. Philadelphia definitely has to make moves, and it will have to move on from some top prospects along the way.

There have been some guys around the Phillies farm system who have been viewed as untouchable in the past, especially Aidan Miller.

However, Miller isn’t viewed as that any longer, and that’s mainly due to his back injury that he’s dealt with throughout the past few months.

“You could copy and paste a lot of the Arroyo section for Escobar, at least as it pertains to how he fits into his team’s future.

“The Phillies’ threadbare farm system leaves them ill-prepared to deal with a rapidly aging core, but with Aidan Miller’s back issues becoming more and more of a concern and both Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott hitting free agency this winter, they’re going to need Escobar sooner rather than later. He doesn’t have a standout tool anywhere, but he’s a line-drive machine who can stick at second base and hopefully become an above-average regular there,” Chris Landers wrote.

I’m still of the belief that the Phillies have absolutely nobody in their farm system who should be viewed as untouchable, though that doesn’t mean they should just trade some of these young guys for small big league upgrades.

If the Phillies can make a blockbuster deal, however, and have to move on from some of their top prospects, that’s absolutely what should happen if they believe they can get over the top.
