After an early part of the season in which Niccolò Pisilli seemed on the fringes of Gian Piero Gasperini’s project, the 2004-born player has become indispensable, or almost.
He finished the season with 1,885 minutes, four goals, and four assists, leaving an indelible mark on the Giallorossi’s fourth-place finish.
A few hours after the team returned to Fiumicino, the Giallorossi youth product made some comments on the sidelines of the Ussi awards ceremony.
The midfielder began by celebrating the milestone: “Yesterday was a beautiful evening. Returning to the Champions League after so many years is a great feeling; we’ve been working towards this all year.”
Pisilli, as reiterated by all the key figures in Roma’s run, admitted he never stopped believing in reaching the top four: “We believed in it all year, we were always in the top four, and there was never a significant gap in points from fourth place.”
The midfielder concluded by praising Gasperini: “Gasperini was important; he brought his ideas, and we did well to follow him. In the second half of the season, we were able to better implement his ideas on the pitch, we understood his concepts better, and thus we played good football. His story speaks for itself; he helped so many players improve. I’ve always followed him, I’ve grown with each training session, and I’ve carved out my own space.”
