The Islanders (5-5) are entering a gauntlet in their schedule that includes East Greenwich, Westerly, a rematch with Portsmouth and Division I Pilgrim over their next four matches. Middletown would currently be ticketed for a semifinal meeting with the Patriots but has work to do before the postseason arrives later this month.
Portsmouth (11-2) remains atop the tournament standings after suffering only twin 6-5 defeats to Division I Barrington and the Avengers. The Patriots count Division I wins over Bishop Hendricken and Pilgrim to their credit and are on course to better the 11-4 mark they posted last year in the regular season. The Islanders visit for a May 18 rematch that will be circled on the calendar.
“We just have that extra drive,” Dionne said. “We’re coming out thirsty and hungry for it.”
