While it may not register to many right away, there’s no question the Las Vegas Raiders will be in the spotlight to start the 2026-27 season.

If the Raiders begin the year with a lackluster record, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that a significant change could be made. That change could be a blockbuster trade centered on the franchise’s star edge rusher, Maxx Crosby.

“Joe, I think Crosby will start the season with the Raiders,” Breer wrote Wednesday. “I also think that the Raiders and Crosby intend to move forward together for the foreseeable future.” But is there a possibility that Crosby could be traded in November? Yeah, it’s not impossible.”

“Here’s the hypothetical scenario: Nine games in, Crosby’s crushing it, looking healthy, and the Raiders, while showing promise, are 1–8. At that point, the Raiders wouldn’t have to shop him; the calls would come in. And as strong as the 2027 draft promises to be, maybe someone would give them something to think about.”

The Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Rams are three franchises that have been linked to the 28-year-old five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher recently.

The Eagles are still recovering from losing Nolan Smith and Jaelen Phillips in free agency, the Bears were one of the worst pass-rushing units in the league a season ago, and according to the Athletic’s Nate Atkins, the Rams may be willing to trade their 2027 first-round pick to the Raiders for Crosby in a midseason deal.

It’s safe to say those contenders, as well as other organizations considering entering the Crosby sweepstakes, will be rooting against the Raiders during the first half of the 2026-27 campaign.
