Robbinsville boys track and field won its first-ever state championship May 14, dominating the NCHSAA 1A state meet at the Marcus T. Johnson Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro with 100 team points.
The Black Knights were led by three state champions, including Isiac Collins, Nathan Frederick and the school’s 3,200-meter relay team. Four other members of the team finished on the podium in their individual events, as well as a second-place finish from the 1,600-meter relay team.
Robbinsville girls track and field was the runner-up in 1A, narrowly missing out on a state title. The Black Knights finished with 66 team points compared to Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy’s 67.

1A boys
Logan Shuler, Andrews: Shuler won the state championship in the high jump at the boys 1A state championship meet with a jump of 6 feet, 10 inches.
Isiac Collins, Robbinsville: Collins threw a best shot put of 49-5 to win the 1A state championship. he also finished as the runner-up in discus with a throw of 131-6.
Nathan Frederick, Robbinsville: Frederick’s 800-meter run time of 1:58.34 earned him the 1A state championship by less than one second.
Robbinsville relays: The Black Knights’ 3,200-meter relay team, made up of Benjamin Frederick, Austin Bohn, Xamuel Wachacha and Nathan Frederick, won the state championship with a time of 8:12.96. The 1,600-meter relay team, which featured Colton McCoy in place of Wachacha, finished second.
1A girls
Kaiya Ellis, Andrews: Ellis was the state champion in the 100-meter hurdles at the girls 1A state championship meet, running a time of 17.03 seconds.
Chloe Adams, Robbinsville: Adams won the long jump at the 1A girls state championship meet, jump a best mark of 17-0 to take the gold. She finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 34-11 ½, and took second in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 26.05.
Abby Wehr, Robbinsville: Wehr was the silver medalist in the 800-meter run, finishing in a time of 2:35.37. In the 1,600-meter run, she finished second in 5:31.60.
2A boys
Davis Crenshaw, Avery County: Crenshaw finished second in the 800-meter run at the boys 2A state championship, running a time of 1:58.29.
Johnny Long, Cherokee: Long threw a shot put of 51-10 ¼ to win the 2A state championship.
Aaron Harger, Murphy: Harger’s best throw of 145-3 in the discus led him to a second place finish at the boys 2A state championship meet.
Evan Hall, Swain County: Hall was the boys 2A state champion in the pole vault, hitting a mark of 13-0 – a foot higher than anyone else in the field.
Wyatt Outlaw, Swain County: Outlaw finished second in the pole vault, a foot below his teammate at a mark of 12-0.
2A girls
Kaydence Menifee, Avery County: Menifee won a 2A state championship in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.30.
Joscelyn Stamper, Cherokee: Stamper won two state championships, earning first in the discus with a throw of 137-5 and taking first in the shot put with a throw of 39-½.
Annie Lewis, Swain County: Lewis won two state championships at the 2A state meet, winning the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.63 and the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:59.95. She also finished second in the 3,200 meters.
Carden Oetting, Swain County: Oetting’s best mark of 10-0 earned her the state championship in the 2A girls pole vault.
Madison Blankenship, Swain County: Blankenship finished second in the shot put with a throw of 35-3½.
McKenzie Royce, Swain County: Royce finished second in the discus with a throw of 113-7.
3A boys
Cameron McDonald, Owen: McDonald threw 141-10 in the discus to win the 3A state championship.
Craig Webb, Owen: Webb swept the state titles in the distance events at the 3A state championship, running the 800 meters in 1:59.25, the 1,600 meters in 4:31.03 and the 3,200 meters in 9:47.10.
3A girls
Iver Hunt, Hendersonville: Hunt won a state championship in the high jump at the 3A state championship meet, hitting a high mark of 5-2.
Emory Freeman, Hendersonville: Freeman’s time of 16.83 in the 100-meter hurdles earned her a second-place finish at the 3A state championship meet.
Callie Capps, Mountain Heritage: Capps won the pole vault at the 3A state championship meet with a best of 9-6. She also took silver in the discus with a throw of 108-1.
