Not many people were thinking about the Colorado Rockies ahead of the 2026 season. They haven’t been to the postseason since the 2018 season, and didn’t do much over the offseason, but got off to a solid start.
While it’s not the most impressive record, they were sitting at 13-16 at this point last week. And the pitching staff was a big part of their success.
Chase Dollander leads the team with three wins, a 3.38 ERA, and 42 strikeouts, while Tomoyuki Sugano is also looking great. But the pitching staff took quite a hit last week.

Rockies’ pitching staff finally crashes back to earth after hot start
The Rockies faced off against the Cincinnati Reds and then the Atlanta Braves, each in a three-game series, which was not ideal. The Reds have gotten off to a great start, and the Braves have the best record across MLB.
So, it should come as no surprise that Colorado had a bit of a rough week. They could only win one game in their series loss to the Reds, while they got swept by the Braves.
With the pitching staff taking a bit of a hit, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller has taken this club from No. 17 to No. 26 in his latest power rankings piece.
“Overachieving pitching was a major factor in Colorado’s better-than-anticipated 13-16 start to the season. But those arms came back to earth in a big way this week, especially in getting swept by Atlanta. After jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the series opener, the Rockies were outscored 28-8 over the course of the next 24 innings. At least they’re about to face the New York Mets again?”
Now, the Rockies have a great opportunity to right some of their wrongs from last week in a series against the struggling Mets and then one against the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend.
If they can take care of business, Colorado should see itself in a better spot in next week’s power rankings.
