Sandwich baseball takes down Falmouth. HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP

The Sandwich baseball team may have a losing record, but treat the Blue Knights as just any other squad at your own peril.

The Blue Knights (8-9) defeated Falmouth 6-4 on Wednesday. It marked the third win in a row for the Blue Knights.

On the Sandwich Senior Night, Joe Coughlan picked up the win on the mound. Coughlan went seven innings, allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out seven batters.

Tyler Jones drove in five runs, including a three-run home run in the first inning. James Lehane went 2-for-4, and Ty Creighton had an RBI double.

For the Clippers (11-4), Tre’Chaun Days went 4 1/3 innings on the mound and at the plate doubled in Will Frostholm in the third inning. Eathen Vecchione hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Frostholm had an RBI single in the seventh inning. Matt Tribou also had an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Baseball 

Upper Cape 7, South Shore 2: The Rams (10-3) won their third game in a row. Starter Devyn Shultze pitched five innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out 10. Jake Ewing pitched two shutout innings of relief. Shultze led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while Brady Sprague had an RBI triple, two walks and two stolen bases. Patrick Acord, Mitchell Kirkland and Sam Fischer each had two hits.

Cape Tech 12, Bristol Aggie 0: The Crusaders (5-8) won to end a two-game losing streak. Senior Brayden Wright threw a complete-game for the win as he allowed two walks, two hits and struck out eight. Mason Tomlinson had two singles, a three-run home run and six RBIs. Freshman Brody Mumford had two hits, scored three runs and stole four bases. Tucker Enos had a hit and two RBIs. Will Mullin and Johnny Decoteau both had a hit and two RBIs.

Softball

Upper Cape 10, South Shore Tech 2: The Rams (4-8) won to bounce back from Monday’s loss to Bristol Aggie.

Kenley Thomas made five putouts. Amya Irving struck out four and caught a pop fly. Meadow Diede picked a runner off at third twice. The Rams also turned a double play. Nevaeh Merritt made a nice catch in right field. Diede had a three-run home run. Rosie Neville sacrificed the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Brooklyn Kutil, Mary Patton-Salsman, Madi Silvia, Emma Pacheco, Brenna Griffin, Kenley and Kaiya Thomas all scored for insurance runs.

Case 12, Bourne 0: The Canalmen (1-14) lost despite a double from Caroline Geake and a single from Anna Demoura.

Dennis-Yarmouth 24, Mashpee 8: The Dolphins (4-9) went with the long ball in a win over the Falcons (4-10). Brooke Chicoine, Emily Ormon, and Carmyn Sanders all hit one home run for the Dolphins.

Michelle Gonsalves for Mashpee scored three runs.

Monomoy 12, Nauset 0: The Sharks (12-3) beat the Warriors (10-4) for their second straight win. For Monomoy, Kiley Mawn went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Willa Leighton had a hit, two runs and two RBIs. Lexi Totten had one hit and one RBI. Kinsey Lister and Kate Huse each scored two runs. Lister struck out five in five innings.

Alex Mince and Lucy Hartung each had one hit for Nauset.

Sandwich 16, Falmouth 1: The Blue Knights (14-2) beat the Clippers (5-10) for their 11th straight win. Mia Consalvi and Sophie Farrington combined for six hits and seven RBIs. Victoria Lott and Jenna Fay added two RBIs each. Farrington struck out 11 for her 14th win of the season.

Girls Golf

Martha’s VIneyard 4.5, Barnstable 1.5: The Vineyarders (8-2) topped the Red Hawks (10-1) to hand Barnstable its first loss of the season.

For the Vineyarders, Jocie Smith defeated Brian Uhlman 1-up. Callie Oteri beat Molly Colantuono 3 and 2. Clara Rabeni defeated Chloe Soares 3 and 2. Addison Shemit tied Haley LaFrance.

For Barnstable, Emma Levesque defeated Allie Branca 2 and 1. Megan Garhee defeated Hannah Wansiewicz 3 and 1.

Boys Lacrosse 

Abington 10, Bourne/Mashpee 7: The Canalmen (13-1) lost for the first time this season. Charlie Seitz (four goals, one assist), Jack Balfour (two goals), Brady Banks (one goal), Ty Hawkes (three assists) and James Crowell (one assist) paced the offense. Nolan Scofield made 12 saves.

Girls Lacrosse

Nantucket 14, Sturgis West 4: The Whalers (11-2) beat the Navigators (3-8) for their third straight win.

Cora McDade, Bridgit Dwyer, Savannah Roy and Elise Davis each scored one goal for the Navigators. Dwyer also had an assist. Ceci O’Connor made 12 saves for Sturgis West.

Boys Tennis

Monomoy 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Sharks (10-6) beat the Dolphins (2-14) for their third straight win.

At first singles, Monomoy’s Roman Pavluchenko beat Landon Richter 6-1, 6-1. At second singles, Monomoy’s Ethan Seufert beat Michael O’Reilly 6-3, 6-1. At first doubles, Monomoy’s Tom Hereford and John Sene beat Vlad Rose and Kyle Goff 6-3, 6-4. At second doubles, Monomoy’s Easton Jamieson and Patrick McMahon beat Yacha Watkis and Lucas Woods 6-2, 7-6 (10-8).

At third singles, D-Y’s Ryan Carke beat Romani Thomas 6-1, 6-2.

Nantucket 3, St. John Paul II 2: The Whalers (8-5) beat the Lions (4-12) for their second win in the last three matches.

At first singles, Nantucket’s Nick Krastev beat Alden Krieg 6-1, 6-1. At second singles, Nantucket’s Knox Keating beat Zach Jones 6-1, 6-1. At second doubles, Nantucket’s Rojus Rascius and Prosha Artazenko beat Cullen Lynch and Thomas Fagan 6-2, 6-2.

At third singles, St. John Paul II’s Daniel Cheglak beat Alec Angoelov 6-2, 1-6, 10-7. At first doubles, the Lions” Ben Kowal and Will Sutton beat Toni Todorov and Max Ianev 7-3, 3-7, 10-6.

Sturgis West 5, Rising Tide 0: The Navigators (8-4) won their third straight. At first singles, Ray Zhang won 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, George Foster won 6-1, 6-0. At third singles, Kieran Murphy won 6-0, 6-1. At first doubles, Adam Alharthy and Nicholas Cormier won 6-2, 6-0. At second doubles, Michael Chavez and Michael Petaev won 6-0, 6-2.

Girls Tennis 

Martha’s Vineyard 5, Falmouth 0: The Vineyarders (12-0) topped Falmouth (10-4) to keep their undefeated season going.

At first singles, Laina Dubin beat Maia Ledwell 7-6 (3), 2-6, 1-0 (8). At second doubles, Charlotte Marshard beat Julie Grothe 7-5, 6-1. At third singles, Josey Johns beat Phoebe Hodgson 6-1, 6-0.

At first doubles, Leah Thomson and Zoe Treitman beat Kirkland O’Leary and Ayla Salter 6-1, 6-0. At second doubles, Tessa Schultz and Maple Martone won 6-2, 6-3.

Bourne 5, Fairhaven 0: The Canalmen (10-5) swept their third straight match.

At first singles, Lily Russell won 6-4, 6-0. At second singles, Ainsley Hopwood won 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Zoe Noonan won 6-1, 6-3.

At first doubles, Sofia Halunen and Ella Swierkowski won 6-1, 6-4. At second doubles, Ariana McCarthy and Sofia O’Neil won 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-7.

Nauset 3, Sandwich 2: The Warriors (6-7) beat the Blue Knights (2-10) to win their third match out of the last fourt.

At first singles, Nauset’s Anjali O’Brien beat Abby Binienda 6-1, 6-2. At second singles, Nauset’s Sophia Votteler beat Senja Kravitz 6-1, 6-1. At first doubles, Nauset’s Haley Jackson and Callie Murphy beat Cora Tedeschi and Lauren Meyer 6-2, 6-1.

At third singles, Sandwich’s Tenley Rothera beat Molly Joseph 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, Sandwich’s Casey Pestilli and Sadie Clarkin beat Olivia Vining and Daniela Chianciola 6-2, 6-1.
