Son of former Bengals DE Justin Smith signs with Ohio State football

Ohio State football received a commitment on May 17 from four-star edge rusher Wyatt Smith, the son of former Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro defensive end Justin Smith.

At 6-foot-6, 235 pounds, Smith is the No. 11 edge rusher and No. 9 prospect from the state of Florida in the 2027 class. He is ranked No. 78 overall, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings.

Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Smith went to St. Thomas Aquinas High School, which also produced former Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa, the No. 3 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Smith led his team in tackles and sacks in 2025, producing 155 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles, per 247 Sports.

Smith juggled offers from Indiana and Missouri before committing to the Buckeyes.

Playing in the NFL for 14 years, Smith’s father, Justin, was drafted by the Bengals fourth overall in the 2001 NFL Draft out of Missouri. He had five consecutive Pro Bowl seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

Smith is the eighth four-star commitment for Ohio State in 2027, and the Buckeyes secured a commitment from five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs in December 2025.
