Here’s a cool storyline to watch at the upcoming New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp. Former Jacksonville State wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner is one of several wideouts trying out for a roster spot, and he comes from an athletic bloodline. His father, Scott Rechsteiner, was part of the famed “Steiner Brothers” tag team wrestling duo along with his older brother Rick. They were a headline feature in the WWF and WCW back in the 1980s and 1990s, and the WWE Hall of Fame inducted them both in 2022.
As for the younger Rechsteiner? He’s a good athlete at 6-foot-1 and 222 pounds, having timed the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds with admirable numbers in the broad and vertical jumps. A lack of agility held him back with subpar performance in the short shuttle and three-cone drill. Rechsteiner set career-highs in receptions (36), receiving yards (383), and touchdown catches (5) last season, but his experience as a blocker may be what sets him apart from other rookies trying out this weekend. He logged 760 snaps as a run blocker over four years at Jacksonville State and played a lot of reps on special teams earlier in his career (161 of them) before being promoted as a senior.
So good luck to him at these two days of tryouts. Rechsteiner already tried out at the Tennessee Titans rookie minicamp last weekend but left Nashville without a contract. If it doesn’t work out for him in New Orleans? Rechsteiner has already signed a deal with WWE’s Next In Line (NIL) program. Maybe he’ll end up joining his cousin Bron Breakker (Rick’s son) in the family business.
