Steelers EDGE Nick Herbig makes his long-term plans perfectly clear

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off mandatory OTAs, edge Nick Herbig is on the practice field with his teammates but not working out as he starts his “hold-in” looking for a new contract. Herbig took his place on the sidelines, in uniform, alongside cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who is waiting on a new deal as well.

After practice, Herbig spoke to the media and made it clear he wants to be a “Steeler for life” but also recognizes that this is a business. Herbig is headed into the final year of his rookie contract and has far outplayed his current deal.

Herbig had 7.5 sacks in 2025 as part of a four-man rotation at outside linebacker that included six starts. If his trajectory continues, he could price himself out of playing for the Steelers completely by the end of the 2026 season.
