Steve Kerr has been a key part of two of the greatest dynasties basketball has ever seen. First, he was a player on the ’90s Bulls. Now, he’s spent 12 seasons at the helm of the Golden State Warriors

From the moment he stepped foot in Golden State, Kerr has been a champion. He led the Warriors to a title in his first season and secured three more after that. Even with the franchise’s recent struggles, Kerr has been given loads of time to rebuild and regroup. 

The longtime head coach is now set to return to his role for another two years with a new contract. Kerr and the Warriors came to an agreement Saturday night on a deal to keep him around.

The deal is going to be for two years, but the exact financial commitment is not known at this time. The deal will keep him as the highest-paid coach in the NBA, per ESPN

Kerr made $17.5 million in 2026, higher than any other coach. With the second-highest salary sitting at $15 million, Kerr will be paid more than that in 2026-27. 

Despite the end-of-year speculation about the Warriors moving on, Kerr was at peace with whatever decision was made. 

“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr said after the Warriors were eliminated. “These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes, it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”

Well, it seems Kerr has not reached his expiration date just yet, with two more years in San Francisco.

Steve Kerr was the highest-paid coach in the league in 2025-26. Just trailing behind him were the Heat‘s Erik Spoelstra and the Clippers‘ Tyronn Lue.

How old is Steve Kerr?
