Stones? Watkins? Who should Newcastle sell and buy in the summer?

We asked for your views on one player you would be prepared to see leave Newcastle in the summer and a couple of names who would be realistic targets for Eddie Howe’s side.

Here are some of your comments:

Mark: Carl Rushworth has been excellent at Coventry and on other loans from Brighton. He is such a great goalkeeper and he has a future with England. I’m happy to lose Nick Pope and any of our other goalkeepers.

James: Losing Kieran Trippier this summer will be a big loss, amid Jamaal Lascelles leaving fairly recently and a general need for leaders to pull together, what appears to be, a fragmented and changing side. Can we nab John Stones or a similarly experienced defender to lead from the rear of the pitch? I would love to see it.

David: Unfortunately, Yoane Wissa has been unable to recreate his Brentford scoring form. The reason why? Our playing system is different and he is too small to be an out-and-out target-man as a number nine, which is what we need up front. Ollie Watkins, or a player like him, would be good. I’m sure talented Nick Woltemade could be used to feed and play off such a player. Watkins’ old colleague Jacob Ramsey would also link up well with him, I’m sure, if one of our other midfielders were to depart this summer.

Matt: Gordon and Livramento can go. Hope Tonali stays. Need Bruno to stay, alongside Hall, Thiaw, Ramsey and Miley. That’s the core to build on. For squad cost ratio rules, move on Willock, Joelinton and Murphy. We need to bring in young, high-ceiling players, raise the technical floor, and have alternative creativity to Bruno. I’d also bring in a new coach specialising in controlled possession and breaking down low blocks. We’ll still have plenty of Premier League experience but we need the mentality to be right.

Matt’s list of possible recruits included the likes of Michael Kayode (Brentford), Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta), Mateus Fernandes (West Ham), James Trafford (Man City), Mike Godts (Ajax), Breno Bidon (Corinthians) and Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig).
