It’s been a good run lately for Tennessee baseball, and the notable outlets are starting to recognize the Vols’ improvement accordingly.

After checking in among Baseball America’s top 25 last week, they do so now in both BA and D1 Baseball’s rankings released on Monday.

Yeah, I know. With conference tournaments starting, the rankings don’t really matter (not that they ever did that much). Save your effort in the comments.

But it’s more what they represent overall. They’re a fair, tangible recognition of the turnaround that Josh Elander’s team has pulled off since the middle of conference play.

Tennessee started their season at 4-8 in SEC play. They finished 11-7 and notched series wins over two teams – Alabama and Texas – who will be hosting in the next two weeks. So long as Tennessee can dodge an opening round loss to South Carolina on Tuesday, the Vols should be a two seed come the NCAA Tournament regardless of what happens. Yes, even if they win the SEC Tournament.

So, buckle up and enjoy the ride because the Vols are starting to play some of their best baseball at just the right time.
