Texas A&M basketball has entered its first full offseason under head coach Bucky McMillan, who has nearly rebuilt his second roster from the transfer portal over the past month, while several key starters/reserves have announced their return to the program. On Wednesday, the Aggies accomplished one of the most productive days in offseason history.
After landing three key commitments from the transfer portal, led by star transfer shooting guard PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game, McMillan and his veteran coaching staff pulled off an unthinkable commitment from NBA G-League guard Bryson Warren, who averaged nearly 20 points per game with the Westchester Knicks, and shot nearly 40% from beyond the arc.
Just hours later, Former Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who was lost for the season after less than ten appearances in non-conference play, announced that he will return for a final season and will, hopefully, enter the new campaign 100% healthy after dealing with a foot injury.
After Mgbako’s announcement, it was revealed that LSU transfer guard Jalen Reece committed to the Aggies, further bolstering McMillan’s depth in the backcourt, as the former Top 80-ranked prospect has a bright future ahead of him. Looking to add at least one more guard, Texas A&M has now been connected to St. John’s transfer guard Joson Sanon.
Standing 6’5″, Sanon averaged 7.9 points per game, shot 33.8% from the field, and nearly 34% from beyond the arc. On paper, Sanon would serve as a valuable reserve guard who could serve as McMillan’s sixth man off the bench.
