After setting a new career-high in strikeouts, Dylan Volantis is adding to his trophy case. The Longhorns‘ star was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week On Monday due to his stellar outing against Mississippi State last Friday. With Texas needing a win against a conference rival, Volantis showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the country.
Against the Bulldogs, Volantis struck out 12 batters in six scoreless innings. He only allowed three singles while frustrating Mississippi State hitters all afternoon. In what has been a seemingly easy transition to the rotation, Volantis was nearly unhittable. That set the tone for a dominant performance by Texas pitching.

In total, the Longhorns finished with 19 strikeouts, tying their most in a nine-inning game in program history. For Volantis, it was another example of why he has a bright future with more room to grow before making the jump to the next level.
Through 62.2 innings this season, the Westlake High Alumna has posted a 1.87 ERA while striking out 92 batters. He has held opponents to a .189 batting average and has only allowed earned runs. The Longhorns star also set new career-highs in wins, innings pitched, and starts.

Over the last few months, Texas has been a popular team when it comes to conference honors. The other Longhorns to win SEC weekly accolades are Temo Becerra, Sam Cozart, Ruger Riojas, and Anthony Pack Jr. With a few weeks still remaining in the regular season, that list could continue to grow.
Regardless of how the Longhorns 2026 campaign plays out, Volantis has put the nation on notice. He was one of the best closers in the nation last season and has been even better as a starter. That has been a welcome sign for a team with national title aspirations.
