Look, body language is real, and people can read it, but if you are saying you “know” what Sean McVay is thinking after the Los Angeles Rams selected Ty Simpson, you could be right, you very much could be wrong. It’s tricky to go off of body language because body language is tricky.
Ever been happy and have someone accuse you of being sad? How about your sad, but no one can tell? Body language isn’t the end all be all, and what are NFL coaches if not actors? They sell fans on lies, they convince teams they will do things that they will not do, in the press conference after L.A. selected Simpson, yes, Les Snead and McVay looked more subdued than usual. Does that mean anything?
I don’t know.
Here’s the reality. Snead and McVay may hate the Simpson pick. Or maybe they have other things going on like preparing for Day 2 and Day 3 of the NFL Draft, meaning they don’t have the time to get excited, not yet. They have a roster to build.
Now, will we get reports that people in the Rams organization hate the Simpson pick? That’s a great question, and until something tangible like that comes out, it’s all speculation.
Let me ask this, if Snead and or McVay didn’t want to take Simpson, then why was Simpson chosen?
I cannot explain why McVay and Snead seemed somber on Thursday night, I cannot explain why McVay’s phone call with Simpson seemed less energetic than usual. I can express that unless you know McVay, and even then, you likely don’t know exactly what he thinks.
So, before you get lost in the sauce of YouTube, internet comments, hot takes and body language “experts”, let this pick breathe. Time will tell what the Rams really think, and whether this choice was right or wrong for the Rams in 2026 and beyond.
And remember, speculation, body language reading, and leaving no stone unturned, that’s all part of the fun, so go ahead and enjoy those takes! And perhaps take those takes with a grain of salt.
Experts and armchair experts sometimes have their opinions weighed the same, whether they should or not. And all the “experts” want to share their takes after the Rams shocked the NFL world and maybe even themselves on Thursday night.
