Thiago Alcantara is being tipped for a new job at Liverpool following his departure from Barcelona.

Hansi Flick confirmed at the end of the season that Thiago would be moving on from his job on the coaching staff at Barca.

“He helped me a lot here in my work at Barça and over the last two years he has been amazing,” he told reporters.

“We will miss him, but I understand that he has his own plans and that is a good thing. I hope one day he can come back because football needs people like him.”

Thiago is now being linked with a move to Liverpool if Andoni Iraola takes over as boss. The Reds have parted company with Arne Slot and are now expected to turn to the Bournemouth boss.

Liverpool reporter David Lynch thinks Thiago could be part of his staff.

He told the Anfield Index: “I do expect there to be someone with a Liverpool background to come in and be part of that coaching staff.

“I did have a conversation yesterday regarding the possibility and I expect there will be someone who has played for Liverpool previously to be on that staff. Thiago makes an awful lot of sense, so I wouldn’t rule out that possibility at all.

“The fact he’s Spanish, he’s got that link there with Liverpool, he’s played in the Premier League himself before and you’re getting a Spanish coach. That just makes a lot of sense, so maybe one to keep an eye on.”

Thiago spent time as a player at Liverpool at the end of his career before calling it a day in 2024 and then heading back to Barca.
