Thunder’s Jared McCain reveals Spurs’ on-court warning after first brutal late-game hit

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain endured two late hits in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, and several videos quickly began making waves. After the Spurs pulled the starters down 120-106, Victor Wembanyama was spotted whispering something to Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo.

The clip went viral when Plumlee slammed through the back of McCain shortly after prompting the young Thunder guard’s confused reaction.

Following Plumlee’s foul on McCain, Biyombo also sent McCain to the floor with under one minute remaining, and apparently, the Spurs even let the Thunder guard know that it was coming. McCain addressed the foul in a postgame interview, revealing that the Spurs told him, “I got another one for you too.”

“Yeah, that was crazy, I didn’t expect it,” McCain said of the foul. “We were at the free throw line, and I was like, ‘Why’d you do that, man?’ And he was like ‘I got another one for you too.'”

While it’s unknown exactly what Wembanyama told Plumlee and Biyombo, the follow-up message McCain apparently received after the initial hard foul is certainly noteworthy. It adds another layer to what was an interesting late-game sequence, with both plays involving the Thunder’s breakout playmaker and potential new starter.
