The Tigers have fired Triple-A Toledo manager Gabe Alvarez.
The Tigers fired Alvarez for a “violation of club policy,” the team said in a statement Tuesday morning. The team said it would no further public comment.
Alvarez, 52, was in his second season managing Toledo, after three seasons managing Double-A Erie. He won two league championships with Erie, and was named Eastern League manager of the year in 2023.
Mike Hessman, 48, will take over as interim manager at Toledo. Hessman is best known as the all-time leader in home runs in the minor leagues. His name is on the wall at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.
The News has reached out to Alvarez for comment.
