It’s well known that the Detroit Tigers are having a bad 2026 season so far. They’re last in the AL Central, Tarik Skubal is hurt, and they might be sellers by the August 3rd trade deadline.
However, there’s a bit more bad news coming for the Tigers on an injured All-Star, though it doesn’t have to do with Skubal.
According to Jason Beck of MLB.com, A.J. Hinch revealed some worrying news on Javier Baez amid his ankle injury recovery. It might be a little while before Baez comes back.
Tigers get worrying Javier Baez injury news
“Javy Baez will see a specialist for his right ankle injury, which has not progressed as hoped, according to manager A.J. Hinch,” Beck reports.
Baez landed on the injured list for the Tigers back in April due to a right ankle sprain. He’s been recovering since then, but this is now a troubling update.
Down in Florida, Baez has been working his way back, going through running and hitting progression. But this update indicates that things aren’t going too well, and he might be out for a while longer.

He’s been out since April 29, and with how things are trending, it looks like he’s going to miss well into June this season.
The 33-year-old veteran and All-Star infielder had a .256 batting average with two homers and six RBIs in 24 games across 78 at-bats with a .677 OPS before landing on the injured list.
After this injury update, it’s clear Baez is going to be out for a while longer. It’s a tough blow for the Tigers, as the season is beginning to slip away as summer approaches.
