Newcastle United and England full-back Tino Livramento has had surgery on the calf injury that ruled him out of the World Cup, the Premier League club has confirmed.
Livramento was selected in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for World Cup 2026 and travelled to the United States but was injured in training before the Three Lions’ Group L opener against Croatia.
He will miss the start of pre-season but is expected to return for training in good time for the start of the Magpies‘ 2026-27 season.

‘A minor surgical procedure’ for Newcastle’s Livramento
“Newcastle United can confirm that Tino Livramento has successfully undergone a minor surgical procedure,” read a short statement from his club.
“The defender, who returned from World Cup duty with an injury, is expected to return during pre-season. Everyone at the club wishes Tino a smooth and speedy recovery.”

The 23-year-old has played six times for England, four under Tuchel and once as part of his former Under-21 boss Lee Carsley’s final team selection as caretaker in November 2024.
Livramento, who joined Newcastle from Southampton in 2023, has already experienced a number of injury issues in his young career. Without them, he would undoubtedly have found his way onto the pitch at the World Cup.
Widely regarded as one of England’s foremost full-back talents, Livramento has been held back by availability problems. He made just 17 Premier League appearances last season after playing in every league game but one in 2024-25.
England manager Tuchel didn’t hide his emotion as he explained how the injury came about after Livramento had to leave the squad.
“I was very disappointed and very sad,” said Tuchel. “All of us were.
“It was a little shock in training when he stopped training and he straight away had the feeling that this could be an injury that costs him the tournament and, unfortunately, he was right.”
The full-back’s target to return will be Newcastle’s first game of next season, which sees them welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park on Sunday, August 23.
England face DR Congo without Livramento in the round of 32 on Wednesday.
