One of Iowa basketball’s top targets in the 2027 recruiting class is headed in a different direction. And, unfortunately for Hawkeye fans, its to arch rival Iowa State.
Donovan Davis, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward out of Freedom High School in Wisconsin, revealed his commitment to the Iowa State Cyclones on Wednesday evening.
Per Cyclone Fanatic, Davis is the second-highest ranked commit in Iowa State basketball history. Per Rivals, Davis is the No. 31 player nationally, the No. 10 small forward and the No. 3 player out of Wisconsin. Davis chose Iowa State over fellow finalists Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Marquette.
The decision is in!

Iowa hosted Davis on an official visit on April 15. Davis averaged 21.7 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game, while shooting 70% from the field during his junior season. The Hawkeyes originally offered Davis on June 22, 2025.
Iowa is still searching for its first commitment in the 2027 class. Iowa signed small forward Jaidyn Coon and forward Ethan Harris in its 2026 class. The Hawkeyes also signed two transfers: guard Ty’Reek Coleman and center Andrew McKeever.
