Cristian Romero out, James Maddison in.
That would be the perfect switch if Abbi Summers was tasked with naming the next Tottenham captain.
The Argentine, who was handed the armband 12 months ago, appears set to leave the club this summer in search of a new challenge.
Serie A champions Inter have shown an interest in the 28-year-old, however it is understood that Romero favours a move to Spain.
The centre-back has long been linked to Atletico Madrid, but a formal offer has never materialised.
Cash-strapped Barcelona have also been keeping tabs on him.
Romero, who is enjoying a period of downtime following his run to the World Cup final with Argentina, has plenty of work to do in securing a new club this summer.
Early signs suggest that many Tottenham fans are not against him leaving the club before the end of the transfer window.
Romero has been embroiled in various controversies during his time in north London that has left a bitter taste in the mouth of sections of the fan base.
Summers is firmly in the ‘Romero out’ camp and news of his impending exit comes as welcome news.
Can’t come quick enough
“I can’t bloody wait,” she told talkSPORT’s dedicated Tottenham show titled ‘Inside Spurs’.
“I never wanted to see that bloke in a Spurs shirt ever again after the way he behaved as club captain last season.
“I think I made my feelings on Cristian Romero abundantly clear.
“Put it this way, I’m not on his Christmas list and he wouldn’t be on mine.
“I’m glad the club has agreed there’s no way back as well. It’s a mutual consent thing, both go their separate ways and I’m happy to see it.”
Summers has urged the club to look no further than Maddison when searching for Romero’s successor as captain.
The England international has endured a torrid 12 months after picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury last August.
He made his grand return to action in May, contributing to the club’s bid for Premier League survival.
Maddison is generally well respected by the fan base, often fronting up admirably in turbulent times.
And for Summers, Maddison possesses all the right attributes for the job.
Give him the armband
“I know he hasn’t featured too much since he joined us because of the long-term injuries but one thing I would say about Madders is that he actually loves that football club,” she added.
“You can tell he does, he’s really passionate about it.
I pray he has a good season. I pray he stays fit because I’d love to see Maddison actually feature and contribute.
“The work he has actually done for Spurs and his character, he seems like a very nice, genuine bloke, I think that is someone I can get behind as a club captain.”
Who have Tottenham signed so far this summer?
Spurs have been one of the Premier League’s most active clubs this summer with boss Roberto De Zerbi aiming to return the club to the top end of the table.
The Italian has opted for tried and tested Premier League stars with Andy Robertson arriving from Liverpool as well as Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton in a £52million deal.
De Zerbi has bolstered his midfield options with the £85m signing of Matheus Fernandes and the £100m acquisition of Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.
Meanwhile, the club have also snapped up Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers.
And there could be further new faces through the door before Spurs kick off their Premier League campaign at Brentford on Saturday, August 22.
