Upper Cape to meet Cape Tech in Vocational State Championship game

It’s going to an be an all-Cape and Islands MVADA Vocational Championship after Upper Cape defeated Assabet Valley Reg Tech 10-5 on Friday afternoon.

Braeden Blanchard tallied four goals and three assists, while Oliver Barton had two goals and three assists for Upper Cape (15-3). Braiden Hoban added two goals and an assist. Gavin Richardson and Aidan Demestico both added one goal and played tough and aggressive on ground balls in the midfield.

Bryce Barton played lock down defense in front of goalie Teddy Black, who made 11 saves in goal.

Upper Cape, which was crowned the co-champions of the Mayflower League, will host Cape Tech in the finals on Wednesday (May 27) at 3:30 p.m.

Cape Tech advanced to the championship game after beating South Shore Tech 14-5 on May 20.

Boys Lacrosse

Martha’s Vineyard 13, Cardinal Spellman 1: The Vineyarders (6-10) notched back-to-back victories for the second time this season. They close out their regular season schedule against rivals Nantucket on May 23.

Sandwich 14, St. John Paul II 4: The Blue Knights (7-11) snapped a three-game slide to build some momentum ahead of the Division 4 state tournament. The Lions (14-3) had their six-game win streak come to an end.

Baseball

Monomoy 19, Cape Tech 2: The Sharks (8-12), who scored 15 first-inning runs, ended the regular season with back-to-back wins as it defeated the Crusaders (8-9) in a Harwich battle.
