USC baseball responds with critical sweep of Purdue

The month of April has been a rough one for USC baseball thus far. Entering last week, the Trojans had lost eight of 11 games, including brutal sweeps at UCLA and Nebraska.

Over the weekend, USC returned to Dedeaux Field for a critical Big Ten series with Purdue. The Trojans responded in a big way, sweeping the Boilermakers with victories of 4-3, 6-1, and 11-4.

The sweep was particularly critical because it pushed USC ahead of Purdue in the Big Ten standings. The Trojans now sit in fourth place at 16-8 in conference play, while the Boilermakers are in fifth at 15-9.

It also continued a significant disparity in USC’s performance in home and away games. The Trojans are 25-1 at Dedeaux Field this season, but just 9-10 on the road.

USC will have an opportunity to improve both of those records this week. The Trojans will visit UC Irvine on Tuesday night, before hosting Rutgers for three games this weekend.
